Calypso Season 2018 brings yet more light to a number of issues but what we must ask is, are the songs being sung by these great Calypso artists(calypsonians) ring true to society or not? This is what brings us here today. King Dice, the 8 time Calypso King of Dominica is back again with yet another song that challenges the status quo of society and that song name is Looters! Many believe that the song is glorifying Looters and their looting ways while others believe the song is speaking truth to what went on just after the passage of Hurricane Maria that left the island in state of near apocalypse! Was Dice right to sing the song the way he did? Was Dice sending a message to the certain people in power out there? What was Dice doing the right thing?
I share the view that if what's being said, no matter who says it, is the truth, it should reign as truth and not be blasted because certain persons feel the song is attacking them or not. "If is true my brother, d ting true!" Calypso, most times here in Dominica, sheds light to the ills of society that many people don't seem to see is affecting them, and I for one know that if it wasn't for calypso, many persons would turn a blind eye to the issues at hand. Take for example, the 100 million dollars that was set aside for the Layou River Project, somehow, mysteriously vanished. Do you know many persons did not know about that?
