In the Caribbean, you will find a variety of many talented people doing many wonderful things. Very popular names like Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Bust Rhymes, Nasio Fontaine, Marie-Claire Giraud, Shalli, among others are amongst those who came from the Caribbean. However, we find a common trend that takes place in some of the islands and that is there isn't a relevant medium or the right set of people available to facilitate individuals who wish to elevate their skills and abilities. If there are, the accessibility is limited. It is always a struggle and some persons simply give up and put their gifts to rest. There is so much that can be done but we find it very hard to push forward. Why is that? Is the right means available to the musicians and artists, are there any help for them, or is this a one man show where persons refuse to help each other so that they can have the upper hand? To reach to that international level sacrifices must be made, egos must be dropped and in terms of finances, it must be reasonable according to the level that we are at. However, this is only my take on the matter.
An 'Artist Meet' was called in the Nature Isle of the Caribbean, Dominica for the Dominican people who have the mindset of making the world a better place through music. At the Alliance Francais, musicians, artists, singers and producers all joined together under one roof to have a discussion on the next possible step that needs to be taken in Dominica and by extension, the music world. Take a listen to what is being said at the Conference Mee and see in what way this could also help you, as an upcoming musician and/or artist. Also music video done by Troy Anthony from Jamaica entitled, 'Next Generation' which signifies that what we do today, will affect the generation to come. We need to set the right standards and principles so that they too can follow suit and pass on the mantle to the generations after them.
